Elizabeth had waited 18 years before ever stepping foot in the basement of her own house. Now, the young woman who lives with Rett Syndrom has her very own therapy room to use whenever she desires!
"It was wonderful to see the look on Elizabeth's face coming downstairs for the first time in her life to find a room that was created especially for her," said Wish Granter Shannon Mulkern. "The room is a great change-of-scenery for Elizabeth and her aides filled with colors, music, and therapy equipment. We had a great time!"
Shannon and her sister Danielle were Elizabeth's wish granters who planned the room renovation. With the help of several other volunteers and Make-A-Wish Program Director Kate Vickery, the room finished up beautifully. See pictures below.
Elizabeth's mom, Lauren said the finished room looks great and "it is a perfect space for Elizabeth. I think she is still processing the fact that it's 'hers!' I had not thought until yesterday that she has probably NEVER been in the basement...there was never any reason for her to go there. We had fun playing there today. We were talking about her weekend and the new room and she burst into a big smile!"
