Demitria was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease at 16. She underwent four months of intense chemotherapy and radiation. While her friends attended classes, sporting events and parties, Demitria grew so weak that she could not walk. She lost her hair. She felt awful. But, she fought.
When healthy enough to meet with Make-A-Wish, Demitria decided she wanted to go to Greece with her family to see the country of her heritage.
“I felt like it was a reward for fighting as hard as I did. It was amazing to be there exploring ruins and beautiful beaches when months before I couldn’t even walk,” said Demitria.
“You all do great work,” said Demitria’s father, Tom. “The wish trip really brought Dee good energy, hope, love, joy and stimulated her connections to living life again. Our family is grateful for the work you do.”
Demitria plans to attend college this year and has also donated time to help Make-A-Wish.
