Casey, 8, of North Vassalboro, had a grand time on his
Disney cruise this January. His wishgranters, Katie Theriault and Marlene
Edwards, reported the following:
On the day of his wish, January 6, Casey was expecting a ride to the
airport in Marlene's truck, but was surprised - and delighted - when a
stretch limo showed up to give him a luxurious lift through the winter
storm.
Once aboard the Disney Cruise ship, Casey had a special room with his
own verandah overlooking the ocean, and chocolates on his pillow every
night. He enjoyed swimming in the many pools on the ship, and in the
warm tropical waters while at port. He also met some special Disney
friends - Minnie Mouse especially took a liking to Casey and personally
escorted him around the ship. Casey even met the Captain of the ship
and was named an honorary Captain himself. He feasted on delicious food
- loved the spaghetti!
However, the adventures didn't just begin and end on the ship. Casey
had a send off party at Applebee's. To his surprise, several members of
the Waterville Fire, Police and Ambulance Departments showed up. They
escorted Casey in full procession, with lights and sirens blaring, back
to the fire station where he was shown all sorts of demonstrations and
proclaimed an honorary Lieutenant.
And, on the return trip from Florida, Casey - who has an infectious
good nature and sense of humor - befriended the pilot, who gave Casey
the wings from his uniform.
Meanwhile, the Waterville fire department had located a fire jacket
that was just the right size for Casey, and presented it to him upon
his return to Maine. The jacket serves as a reminder of all the love
Casey has shared and the lives he has touched throughout this
experience. In many ways, he gave us more than we could ever give him.
