"KK's Inspiration" Walk Team

Our Walk for Wishes was held on May 26 in seven locations, including Festival Plaza in Lewiston. The team KK's Inspiration raised nearly $8,300, after collecting pledges for only two weeks. The team of 39 banded together to support wish child Kailee Childs, who wanted to raise $5,000 - the average cost of a wish - to help another child have his or her wish come true. Kailee, 13, of Auburn, wanted to give back even though she hasn't even gone on her wish trip yet. In October, Kailee, her parents, and five siblings, will go on a Disney Cruise through the Caribbean.

After the walk, Kailee's mother, Kerrie, wrote the following:

"This is the fabulous team that had less than two weeks to do it all. I am so proud of Kailee and everyone on the team to all pull together in such a short time and be able to get a final amount like we did. Everyone on the team had something to do with Kailee. Whether they came and sat at the hospital when she had surgery and just read to her, or pushed her to get up and walk, or encouraged her to no end, or told her how beautiful that she is, or watched my other kids while she had radiation and we had to go to Portland everyday, or came over and cleaned my house during that time, or kept up with my laundry, or even just prayed, or just took the trip to Portland with us to see what she was actually going through.

Every one of these people had a special role in a time of trial and they were even there during the walk in the rain, smiling and laughing and having a good time. I could not have asked for a better group of people to have gone on this journey with than the ones that were there for us through thick and thin. All I have to say is that we certainly have many true friends. What a wonderful surprise to see the same group of people work to help Kailee reach her goal. All she wanted was to raise $5,000 to be able to grant one child's wish and she went above and beyond that. She is our inspiration."
